Belt Making & Shop Tour

We recently relocated our shop to 1901 Bardstown Rd. in the beautiful Highlands neighborhood of Louisville. We want to share our new work space with you and provide and inside look at a day's work here at C&C. Thanks for visiting!

A perfect day in the shop starts with a new shipment of leather, straight from the world-renowned Horween Tannery in Chicago.

Once we've stocked our leather inventory, cranked up some tunes and assessed the day's production run, each belt strap is pulled by hand.

After straps are pulled, stamped, sized and the durable custom canvas is applied to an inner layer of veg-tanned leather, it's time to hand things over to our trusty #2: our war-era Singer 111. As old as your grandmother, but now quite as creaky.

Heavy-duty nylon thread keeps everything snug for life.

Solid brass buckles are applied, rivets are set, holes are punched - everything is inspected prior to completion and shipping of a product.

Finished bags are bagged, tagged and passed off to Duane. (He's our mailman. Good guy.)

All good days in the shop are capped off with a banquet beer. Cheers to your newest belt, and cheers to our new shop!

***Did you know that Clayton & Crume is now offering BELT MAKING CLASSES?  We'd love to host your group of 6-12 in our shop one evening for a hands-on experience unlike any other. Each participant will walk out with a brand new "lifetime" belt made from full-grain leather and solid brass hardware. We'll take you through the steps of strap cutting, edge finishing, buckle application, riveting, hole-punching, and teach you more about leather than you ever cared to hear. Perfect for all the guys in the family, wedding parties (groomsmen), or just a group of guys who appreciate quality goods.
